How Did A Poor Kid Rise To Achieve So
Much?
As you look around this website,
you will find testimonials that say such things as,
"John Williamson, the Wealth Coach, is a
phenomenon" (Lawrence Katzman) and,
"I'm amazed that any one
individual can accomplish so much in just one
lifetime" (Don
Lawler).
How did a kid from a very poor home, not doing
any better than average at school rise to
attain such
achievement and attract such International peer
recognition?
The answer is
straightforward for anyone who is prepared to work hard,
both on themselves and on reaching their goals in life - whatever
those goals may
be.
First, John worked on both his
mind and
body to develop
focus and concentration... and the ability to rapidly
assimilate, understand and
apply large amounts of
information. (Often in his career he has been called upon to become
an 'instant expert'.)
His purpose was entirely
practical.
You see,
when, at 8 years old, he
started his first business, the local business owners he talked to told him
about such things as keeping accounts, sales and
marketing, employing people and law - all
really over the head of
a child. But John took it as a challenge, and
decided that he wanted to
develop his general
knowledge to be at specialist
level, so
nobody in business could 'pull the wool over his
eyes'.
To achieve this objective he
developed his philosophy of 'Overkill'.
In other words, whatever he was
studying, he would 'go for overkill'; he would read
widely, and attend lectures,
seminars, peer group meetings, etc., as many as
he could squeeze in.
Often he would work through the night and still go to work the next
day. He would do this, until when attending a lecture or seminar,
he would feel that he could do as good or better presentation on
that subject than the professional hired to give
it.
Three of
John's philosophies which are relevant here
are:
a) "if it takes (say) between three
and seven years
on average to master a trade or profession, how many of them
could you fit in during your lifetime?"
b) "Your professional training often puts
blinkers on you - and makes you forget your 'common sense'.
You cannot see solutions that are outside that
discipline. However, the
wider your fields of knowledge and experience, the more
viewpoints and solutions you can command, and the more the
blinkers are removed."
c) "Your theoretical knowledge should
always be ahead of your practical experience." That way, you
always have 'something in the bag'. When you hit problems you've never experienced
before, you can always call on your knowledge of what somebody
else did in a similar situation, or you can analyse the
situation in a different way and from a different
viewpoint."
Second, John looked for opportunities to be able to put
his knowledge into practice in developing his own businesses, and
in advising and helping other
people develop their businesses.
As far as the various
Recognitions and
Honours John has
received are concerned, each one has come as a complete surprise to
him. He was just 'keeping his head down' trying to be the best he
could be at whatever his focus was at the time.
It's a Relaxed and Happy
Lifestyle, Just Visiting With Friends...
And, in case you think that this
kind of lifestyle would preclude you from having any family or
social life, rest assured that John has also had
a happy and successful family
and social life and has also pursued
many hobbies and interests
outside of business - but they are not the concern of this
website.
In fact, John has a philosophy
that says he hasn't worked a day since his first retirement in
1980.
That's because he says, "my business is visiting with
friends and helping them along a bit".
After all, what do you do when you
relax are on holiday? You visit with your friends, don't
you?
So, life's one long holiday - and if you happen to make a lot of
money on the way, while helping them to make a lot of money...
well, who's complaining?
Please
Note: The
Qualifications, etc., mentioned below is not a complete list, but
they should be sufficient to give a flavour of the range
of expertise
that is being
blended into the information that John has been - and still
is - compiling for his sons... and which they
have decided to share with you.
