John was born in England, in
January 1943. He fought his way from childhood poverty to business
and professional success.
He started his first business at
age 8. Several others followed - including creating his own
multi-level marketing operation (this kind of business model didn’t
have a name then).
By age 21 John bought and
furnished his first house for cash. This was a wedding present for
his new wife, Shirley. They have been happily married ever
since.
While still in his early teens,
John adapted parts of the esoteric side of an ancient family combat
and survival system to create his own personal mind-power &
success achievement system.
In 1958, John and his father
created the concept now known as ‘mind maps’.
Ten years later, in his mid-20’s,
John was ‘turning around’ a company called Dynamic Reading
Institute – by turning it into a franchise operation.
At the time, John was also
teaching high-speed reading and advanced memory training, using his
own ‘mind-power’ methods.
He introduced some of his own
techniques to the Dynamic Reading course, including his ‘mind-maps’
technique. These techniques were included in ‘the Student Manual’
and the 'Instructor Manual', and taught to the Instructors, who in
turn taught them to the students.
One of those students, Tony Buzan,
was taught the 'mind-maps' technique by instructor Astrid Andersen.
Tony was subsequently invited to join the Dynamic Reading
management team.
After John left Dynamic Reading
Ltd. - to do a 'turn-around' on the (original) London School of
Accountancy - Tony consulted John before he too ‘went off on
his own’. Tony has since been prolific in writing books on study
techniques, mind-maps, etc.
John was one of the first
international instructors in such applied psychology techniques as
advanced memory techniques and advanced high-speed
reading.
He didn’t just originate and teach
many of these techniques, but continuously used and developed his
own more esoteric systems and techniques to personally acquire a
large array of knowledge and professional qualifications – some of
which are listed elsewhere on this website.
The clients John has served and
advised over the years have range from the smallest ‘one-man-band’
up to the largest national and multi-national
businesses.
They have included many ‘household
name’ businesses, including manufacturing, training, retail, and
service businesses, insurance and investment companies, pension
funds, banks, and professional practices.
These clients have also included
many 'high profile' individual clients, including such top
professionals as the senior partners of many major Accountancy
Practices, directors of banks, TV Stars, International Film
Stars, and other ‘celebrities’.
Content to remain anonymously in
the background, John has been the ‘secret weapon’ of many very
successful people over the last forty-plus years.
John is an experienced ‘business
turnaround-man’, but has also personally started, owned, managed
and built multiple long-term businesses of all sizes, from sole
practitioner and partnerships to groups
and multi-national businesses, including a public limited
company.
He also Founded, Chaired and held
Office in, a number of professional societies and
organizations.
In addition to being a successful
entrepreneur and ‘business heavyweight’, John is a highly qualified
and multi-disciplined professional.
As such, he has been
ranked by his professional peers as
amongst the best in the UK and the
World in several professional
disciplines, including accountancy, finance, financial
services, sales and marketing.
His friends, clients, protégés and
growing international following describe his
knowledge as ‘long, deep and
wide’.
John has retired twice. The first
time at age 37, and again at age 60, when he disposed of ownership
and controlling interests in 23+ businesses, which John and his
wife, Shirley had built. This included a wide range of
business types; professional practices, retail, manufacturing and
service businesses and a Public Limited Company.
The Public Limited Company traded
successfully for 21 years, before they disposed of their interests
it, and they closed another one of their businesses after some 24
years. (N.B. Only 2 per cent of businesses survive for 20
years.)
Over the years, John has acquired
a widespread and growing international following. But, he is now
principally writing and recording his priceless business and wealth
creation wisdom - the lessons learned during his lifetime of
experience - for his sons' use.
In 2006, Mitch Meyerson, Jay
Conrad-Levinson, and Mark Victor-Hansen somehow talked John
into being a co-author of “Guerrilla Marketing On The Front Lines”
(published September 2008). This book immediately hit the No. 1
position on Amazon’s Best Seller list.
Working on the Guerrilla Marketing
book was a distraction from his prime objective, but John is
now back to creating 'information products' for his sons
use.
However, as mentioned above,
John's sons have decided to share this information with you - and
are optimistic they may even manage to persuade John to run a
course or two for you himself.
